Recipe of the week: Avocado Hummus from Art Vego

This week for my recipe of the week I welcome another guest post from Bea who blogs at She publishes vegan plant-based easy family friendly recipes and arranges them by colour on her blog.  Bea likes to make eating colourful food a game… Stick with me. It makes sense! So each day your children can choose the colour, for example, “today we will eat just green…” and the whole day they look for fruit and vegetables in this colour. It’s a fun idea to encourage children to eat their fruit and vegetables. Anyway, today I’m sharing a green lunch idea – Avocado Hummus, because I love avocados and so does Miss Belle. The recipe is really quick and you could serve it with bread sticks, crackers or salad/vegetable sticks (ok maybe cucumber sticks and green pepper if you’re keeping it totally green!)

Avocado Hummus

Serves: 2 adults

200g of white beans or chickpeas (precooked)

1 tbsp. of tahini

1 avocado

2 tbsp. of olive oil

1 garlic clove

1/2 tsp. of salt

1 tbsp. of lemon juice

1 pinch of cumin

  1. Rinse the white beans or chickpeas in cold water and tip them into a food processor. Add the peeled garlic.
  2. Peel and pit the avocado and add it to the food processor. Add the salt, cumin, tahini and lemon juice. Turn on the food processor.
  3. When the mixture is fully combined and smooth, tip it into serving dishes. Enjoy your avocado hummus!

Thank you Bea for sharing this recipe. If you’re a blogger and have a recipe you’d like to share on my blog, please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you! For another child friendly lunch idea, check out my weaning friendly pea patties.
