Middletons Steakhouse and Grill’s Spring Menu 2018: a review

I was recently asked to review Middletons Steakhouse and Grill’s Spring Menu. Last year we sampled their fixed price menu and had a lovely family meal, so of course I said yes and was thrilled to be invited back. I was looking forward to going back to see what was new. The new Spring menu has all of the classics like their steaks and burgers, but more vegetarian and vegan options. There are also a lot of new desserts. Plus they’ve opened a new a gin bar, which I was keen to try! Again we chose to eat at their Norwich restaurant.

The new Spring menu for 2018

For starters Matt and I shared one of the new vegetarian dishes which you can have to start or as a main, the Veg and Halloumi Skewers. I love Halloumi and often will be tempted by it when we’re out as I don’t tend to ever buy it or cook it at home. We had a bit of a cheese feast and also ordered the Brie wedges (still dining off the whole “I couldn’t have that when pregnant” thing!) and they were both really good. The Halloumi was my favourite though! We gave Miss Belle a bit of the veg from the skewers too.

Like last time we asked for her meal to come out with our starters and that wasn’t a problem. This time she had a burger and salad. In fact I think that’s her first ever proper burger she’s had out. We usually order fish fingers or sausages. Last year at Middletons she had the Chicken wraps which went down really well but I was keen to see if she’d like the burger. It went down very well although she couldn’t eat it all as it was a big portion for her.

After downing my diet coke and feeding the baby, I decided to sample a G&T from the Gin bar. On the Gin menu there are 10 different varieties including classics like Hendricks. I chose the Puerto Indias Strawberry Gin one. It was presented beautifully and was lovely and refreshing!

On our last visit I had a burger, and although I was tempted with some of the new vegetarian mains (the Mushroom Wellington sounded goooooood, but I didn’t want the pastry!) I thought this time I’d have a steak too. Like I said last time, I like the fact you know that the meat you’re eating is fresh – it’s delivered from their very own butchery in Middleton, Norfolk, every day. I had the 6oz Sirloin with sweet potato fries and it was really tasty. I had a peppercorn sauce with mine which was nice but a bit thinner than I’ve had elsewhere.  Matt also had a steak, and we shared some of Miss Belle’s salad.

New desserts

Finally the bit I was looking forward to the most! And unsurprisingly my favourite dish of the meal. Dessert time! Matt chose a Sundae, Miss Belle had some ice cream and I chose something new, the Chocolate Fondant. It was really yummy! I should have taken a photo of the gooey middle, but I devoured it too quickly! There were loads of things off the dessert menu I could have chosen…Bailey’s and White Chocolate Cheesecake, Crème Brulee… Banoffee Pie. Honestly it’s the main reason I want to go back, to try some more of their puds.

Our bill came to around £70 for three courses for both adults, three drinks (two alcoholic) and a child’s two courses. We left feeling extremely full! Once again the staff were brilliant – so cheerful, quick and obliging to families with young children.  Miss Belle was given some colouring pencils and we were given a table where there was space for the buggy and they took the spare chair away. If you’re looking for somewhere for a family gathering or meet up with a group of friends then I can recommend Middletons (especially the Chocolate Fondant!) You can check out Middletons Steakhouse and Grill’s Spring menu on the their website where you can also easily book a table.

Middletons Steakhouse And Grill kindly gave us £50 towards the cost of our meal for the purpose of this review. Thank you so much for inviting us back!
