This year I’m even more excited for Christmas now that our second baby is here. Last year was wonderful as Miss Belle was approaching her 3rd birthday and seemed to really understand the excitement around Christmas. But now that we have our second baby and our family feels complete, I’m looking forward to it even more. Christmas becomes so magical once you have children. I guess the thing I’m looking forward to the most is seeing Miss Belle and Little Man together. Little Man is besotted with his big sister and he follows her around the room. I can’t wait to see his face as he watches his excitable sister run around the living room once Santa has been!
A family Christmas at home
Now that we have small children, Christmas for us has to be spent at home. Christmas Eve is one of my favourite days of the year. As a child we’d set out a mince pie and sherry for Father Christmas and of course a carrot for Rudolph! So obviously we do this on Christmas Eve like most families. We’re also lucky to live near a street with great Christmas lights and so for the last few years on Christmas Eve we have gone for a walk to look at them. We then come home, have a hot chocolate and get into our pjs and put the goodies out for Santa and Rudolph. It feels like our own little Christmas Eve family tradition.
This year Little Man will be able to wear one of his new “my first Christmas” sleepsuits which Mothercare sent me to review. Made from soft cotton, they’re super cosy and very sweet. Having bought Miss Belle’s “my first Christmas 2015” sleepsuit from Mothercare three years ago I was going to get something like this for him! As you’d expect from Mothercare, the quality is great. The sleepsuits have colour coded poppers to make them easier to do up, and in the 9-12 month sleepsuits the feet have slip resistant soles, so if your little one is standing up or cruising they’ll be nice and safe. I love the print of the polar bear outfit, and the grey starry night one is the one I’ll probably put him in on Christmas Eve.
Then the big day itself!
When I was little we’d get up and open our presents whenever we woke up, usually about 6.30am or 7am! Mum would get the turkey in early so we’d eat and then watch The Queen’s speech. Then we’d go for a walk and come back and play games or watch a Christmas film. Last year we opened Miss Belle’s stocking in our bed first thing, then came downstairs and opened presents. We’ll do the same this year, but with Little Man joining us in bed opening his stocking too! Then we’ll nip out for a short walk to walk off the Christmas Dinner. And now that Miss Belle is a bit older she loves playing games. Little Man always tries to join in, and eat them! So we will spend the afternoon playing with any new games and toys in front of the woodburner.
my first Christmas Mothercare range
I was kindly sent a box with a selection of my first Christmas Mothercare range to review. Alongside the sleepsuits I was sent two bibs, plus a sweet penguin teddy bear. The clothes and bibs are gorgeous but still practical. I’ll be popping Little Man in the sleepsuits as soon as we reach 1st December! But of course we had a little trying on session to see how the clothes fit! Little Man is on the 91st centile, so a big boy. We always find Mothercare clothes come up quite big, so the 9-12 month sleep suits still have plenty of room in them. The teddy bear would make a great gift for a baby’s first Christmas too. Little Man was quite taken with his penguin!
I really can’t wait to make some fabulous memories this Christmas. I can’t believe it is nearly that time of year! Do you have any special family traditions for Christmas? If so, pop them in the comments box, I’d love to hear from you.
Huge thanks to Mothercare who kindly sent me these items for the purpose of this review. As always all opinions and words are my own.
