Recently I was invited by Middletons Steakhouse and Grill to sample their new fixed price menu and kids menu. Seeing as I blog about food and love to share good food with you, I said yes! So this weekend we headed to Norwich. We did a spot of shopping first and worked up quite an appetite by lunch time.
For those of you who don’t know about Middletons, it’s a small steakhouse chain that started with the original one in a Norfolk village near King’s Lynn called Middleton. It’s now expanded and the Norwich branch opened a few years ago. There are now seven steakhouses across the East/South including in Leicester, Peterborough, Colchester, Watford, Milton Keynes, King’s Lynn and Norwich.
Middletons Steakhouse and Grill Norwich
Middletons Steakhouse and Grill is based in the centre of Norwich. The interior is stylish and modern. There’s a lot of seating. I have been once before but had forgotten there was lots of seating upstairs. And at 12.30pm on a Saturday it was packed! The service was great though. It wasn’t like there wasn’t enough staff on to cope with the numbers. We were shown where to leave our pushchair, given a high chair and immediately given bottled tap water. A nice touch which I really like. They quickly brought the kids menu which doubled as a colouring in and activity sheet so Miss Belle could scribble away. Then Mummy got involved… (time to dig out my mindfulness colouring book perhaps?!)
The fixed price menu
Me and Matt were checking out the fixed price menu, which at £9.95 for three courses, is fantastic value. The menu isn’t huge, but there was definitely several dishes I could have tried for each course. Matt had garlic mushrooms to start, which yes, I tasted too, and the sauce was delicious. I opted for the ham and leek croquettes which were really good too.
For our mains I had a cheeseburger and salad. Matt had the minute steak and fries. I regretted not having the fries as they were so good and seasoned really well. I hate it when you get chips which are rubbish! If I go again I’d definitely get the fries. Not to say the salad was bad, I just loved the chips!
One of the things I like most about Middleton’s is that all of their meat is delivered fresh everyday from their own butchery in Middleton. So you know the meat you’re eating is nice and fresh. I sometimes joke that I’m a bit of a meat snob. I like to know where my meat has come from and only usually opt for home made burgers. My burger didn’t taste or look processed so I was happy, and Matt said his steak was nice and tender.
The kids menu
Miss Belle could have had two or three courses. Not thinking she could eat three but knowing she loves a pud, we opted for a main and dessert. We asked if it was possible for her main to come out with our starters and they said that was no problem. Not only that but we had hardly any wait. I was surprised at how fast it came. We chose chicken wraps for her. She’s had this sort of thing somewhere else before and really enjoyed it so we thought it’d be good for her, and it was! There were plenty of chicken and crudities to build her own wrap, plus a side portion or veg. We could have chosen salad or chips but opted for the vegetables, though she wasn’t so bothered about them!
She loved making the wraps. Daddy helped her assemble them and I had a moment where I thought what a big girl she’s becoming. Silly, but it’s lovely to be able to share these moments and watch her grow and become more independent.
The all important puds
Of course we all had dessert. I had the chocolate pot, basically a chocolate and caramel mouse. Matt had a classic which he often opts for, sticky toffee pudding, and Miss Belle had a HUGE chocolate brownie with ice cream. We **may** have had a few spoonfuls of the brownie to stop her eating too much!
The fixed price menu is available Monday to Saturday 12-6pm with an option of three courses for £9.95 or two courses for £8.95 or one course for £7.95. The kids menu is also exceptional value, at two courses for little kids at £4.95, or £5.95 for three courses. The portion Miss Belle had was huge! There are also “big kids” portion sizes and the menu also includes a drink of squash if you want. We all left feeling very full after a really lovely lunch in a nice family friendly place. If you’ve not been before and are looking for a lunch stop in the city, I’d highly recommend you check Middletons out.
Thank you so much to Middletons Steakhouse And Grill for inviting us for the purpose of this review.
