If you want to give something other than an Easter Egg here is an idea for a personal homemade Easter gift. Really simple chocolate shards. Think slabs of chocolate ala Hotel Chocolat broken up and put into a pretty cellophane wrap and ta da! You have a homemade Easter gift. This is so much easier than attempting to make your own Easter Egg, which I did quite spectacularly unsuccessfully earlier last week. Trust me, don’t bother. Just buy an egg if you want an egg! But the beauty of making your own chocolate shards is, you can put in whatever you want on it and it’s a fun thing to do with the kids. In my humble opinion, the mighty mini egg, is a must..
Chocolate Shards Easter Gifts
Ingredients
Favourite chocolate – I used Dairy Milk, but you could use a better quality dark, milk or white chocolate too.
Mini Eggs or Golden Eggs
Rice crispies or cornflakes (optional, if you want some extra crunch)
Any other decoration that take your fancy – mini marshmallows, broken biscuits, sprinkles, edible glitter, freezed dried strawberries etc.
Recipe
Melt the bar of chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water.
Crush a bag of mini eggs with a rolling pin.
Add the crispies to the melted chocolate if using.
Line a baking try with baking parchment.
Pour the melted chocolate mix onto the tray and spread out so it’s fairly thin.
Scatter the remaining mini eggs and any other decorations. I used some blue sugar sprinkles. Push the mini eggs down into the melted chocolate to ensure they will stick when chilled.
If you want to be even more fancy, you could melt some white chocolate as above and drizzle over the tray as artistically as you wish!
Place in the fridge for two hours.
Snap into random shards, place in some cellophane or other pretty paper bags and you have yourself a homemade Easter gift!
